There are a number of things to do in and around the Wells area. Lets start with outdoor recreation. Have a look at the Wells BC website as well
-Lots of great hiking trails! Quite literally hundreds of km worth. Bring your bear spray and /or hike with a friend.
-Biking. Mountain biking and of course the roads aren't as crazy as the city roads. Many people bicycle to and from work in Barkerville, the journey takes anywhere from 25 to 35 minutes... but I do believe Patrice was doing it in 18 minutes last year.
- Canoeing. 25km down the road is the Bowron Lake Chain, noted world wide for it's stunning untouched beauty. The chain takes you in a circle route of 120km of paddling and portaging over a number of different lakes. The whole chain is a five to seven day journey (though there are a couple of guys from Quesnel who can do it in 16 hours!) but you can rent a canoe and just enjoy a day out on Bowron lake as well. There is a campground there, cabins and a restaurant which over looks the lake.
- There is swimming, but you'll have to get directions... too many tourists (and a couple of locals) lately have been using it as a campground and leaving beer bottles everywhere. It should be treated as a family place, so mum's the word ;)
Wells Nightlife:
One might think that being in such a secluded area there is nothing going on... It isn't the case. There is almost always some other thing to do in the evening, rafting, potlucks, fires, various performances, ArtsWells just to name a few. Honestly, if you ever get bored just walk to the gas station, on the way you will likely run into several people you know who will likely invite you to do something interesting and fun with them... works every time!
Quesnel:
Nearest large center 86km down the highway from us. Everything you need banking and grocery wise. For the basics, feel free to shop in Wells at the Wells General Store or the Wells Gas Station and support the local merchants!
